After the Fashion of His Country: Asians and Asia in the 18th Century

  • Historic Rock Ford 881 Rockford Road Lancaster, PA 17601 USA (map)

Historic Rock Ford's Untold Stories of the American Revolution Lecture Series welcomes Daniel Sieh as he presents “After the Fashion of HIs Country: Asians and Asia in the 18th Century." Asia was known for centuries in Europe, and the British were keen to profit off the exotic goods through commerce. This trade was far from a one-sided exchange; it was a dialogue between two very distinct cultures. Goods, ideas and people flowed through trade routes established by the British East India Company and reached as far as the 13 colonies (soon, the nascent United States). These goods, and yes, even people, arrived as distant foreigners in a strange land, but left an indelible mark that has only recently been uncovered.

This presentation will begin at 2 PM in the Langmuir Education Room located on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn. It will be approximately one hour in length.  Please note that admission is for the lecture and does not include the Snyder Gallery.

About the Presenter:  Daniel J. Sieh is a Public Historian with over 12 years of experience working with historical museums throughout the East Coast. He graduated with a History degree from the College of William and Mary in 2016 and has a Master's degree from American University.
