Historic Rock Ford's Untold Stories of the Revolution Lecture Series welcomes Dr. Shirley L. Green as she presents “The Frank Brothers and The American Revolution.” Dr. Green is the author of Revolutionary Blacks: Discovering the Frank Brothers, Freeborn Men of Color, Soldiers of Independence (Westholme Publishing, 2023). This lecture will follow the narrative in her book which follows the lives of her ancestors, William and Benjamin Frank, two brothers who enlisted in Second Rhode Island Regiment during the Revolutionary War. Dr. Green explores their story to provide context for the Black experience during the war. This presentation is based on her book and her research into her family’s connection to the American Revolution.
This lecture will be held in the Langmuir Education Room on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn. Admission is for the lecture and does not include the Snyder Gallery or Hand Mansion.
About the presenter: Dr. Shirley Green received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at the University of Toledo. And received her Ph.D. in History from Bowling Green State University in 2011. She is an Adjunct Professor of History at Bowling Green State University. She is also the Director of the Toledo Police Museum. She was a Toledo Police officer for 26 years—the first woman promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
