"Colonial Punches: Flavors of History" Class with Tony Shahan

Historic Rock Ford welcomes Tony Shahan of Flavors of History as he presents a class on “Colonial Punches: Flavors of History.”

Embark on a historical journey of flavors with your tastebuds. Follow the development of punches from their 17th century beginnings with arrack, through the changing uses of brandy and rum, and ending with whiskey adopted by the patriots. The tasting will be accompanied by stories and trivia about punch history and drinking habits. A fun way to explore American history in the glass. Participants will sample 5 punches featuring rum, brandy, and whiskey during the tasting. This class also includes complimentary refreshments.

This class will be held in the Langmuir Education Room located on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn.

About Tony Shahan: During his over 38 years working in museums, Tony Shahan has worked to ensure that the stories of our shared past remain alive and accessible. He also developed a passion for historic food and beverage. He mostly works with 17th and 18th century receipts but has recreated beverages and dishes from ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, Medieval Europe, and the 19th century. His specialty has become fundraising dinners featuring historic food and drinks. Tony regularly creates historic drinks during classes and for curated tastings.
